When you walk on by afraid to stop and try
You wanna make it right you wanna save a life
You just turn your head on all the suffering
Like you always did, gonna save a life
You gotta save yourself
If you wanna get home tonight
You gotta save yourself...
If you wanna get home tonight
Gotta have some faith, foundation laid in place
When we make a change we can save a life
There's no more in between the lines that can't be seen
Problems on the street, reach out and save a life
You gotta save yourself
If you wanna get home tonight
You gotta save yourself...
If you wanna get home tonight
You gotta save yourself
If you wanna get home tonight
You gotta save yourself...
If you wanna get home...
Define our generation as one to be heard
Reach out to tomorrow, get what you deserve
Are you ordinary and have you got the time
Reach out to another and save a life
I've got the inspiration for a better time
The seconds on the clock are going to end tonight
I haven't got the reason but I got the rhyme... tonight...
Tonight I'm gonna save a life
The future's in our hands along with its demand
We learn to understand, we learn to understand
We all make mistakes, some don't go away...
They never go away
You gotta save yourself
If you wanna get home tonight
You gotta save yourself...
If you wanna get home tonight
You gotta save yourself
If you wanna get home tonight
You gotta save yourself...
If you wanna get home tonight
The lyrics of "Save Yourself" by The Stragglers convey a powerful message about the importance of taking action and making a difference in the world. The song begins by highlighting a recurring pattern of indifference and inaction, where people walk past suffering without stopping to help. The singer urges listeners to break free from this apathy and take responsibility for saving lives.
The line "You wanna make it right, you wanna save a life" suggests a desire for change and a recognition that saving lives requires active participation. By turning a blind eye to suffering, the singer implies that individuals fail to make a positive impact. In order for someone to reach their destination and feel a true sense of fulfillment, they must first save themselves by embracing empathy and compassion.
The following section emphasizes the need for faith and a solid foundation to enact change. The lyrics suggest that when people come together and make a collective effort, they can save lives. The reference to "problems on the street" points to societal issues that directly affect people's lives, and the call to reach out and save a life underscores the importance of personal engagement.
The bridge of the song encourages listeners to define their generation as one that is proactive and unafraid to make a difference. It urges individuals to go beyond the ordinary and invest time and effort in reaching out to others. The mention of inspiration and the passing of time hints at the urgency of the situation, emphasizing the crucial role individuals play in saving lives.
The concluding lines reflect on the responsibility we all have to shape the future. The lyrics acknowledge the inevitability of mistakes, but also stress that some mistakes cannot simply be brushed aside. They linger and continue to affect lives. The repetitive chorus serves as a reminder that in order to find their way home, both physically and metaphorically, individuals must take action and save themselves.
Overall, "Save Yourself" by The Stragglers serves as a wake-up call, urging listeners to break free from apathy and actively contribute to making the world a better place. It highlights the importance of empathy, compassion, and individual agency in creating positive change.
